We're combining our love for running and our enjoyment of craft beer for the BlueMile Brew Mile summer series! It's a social event and a run/walk, with prizes, giveaways and awards--and the awards aren't just for the fastest! Yes, it's only one mile, and yes, you can do it!

This is a social event combined with running and walking, and it's just one mile! Families, pets and strollers are welcome. This is a very, very casual event, so please don't expect chip timing, instant results and aid stations along the way! It's all about getting moving, having fun, and celebrating the social aspects of health and fitness!

Your $5 entry gets you into the run/walk and one beer. All proceeds will go to fund running shoes for participants in Back On My Feet, a local charity that promotes the self-sufficiency of the homeless by engaging them in running as a means to build confidence and self-esteem. (BlueMile is the official run/walk partner of Back On My Feet).

Thanks to our partner New Balance, we'll have some great giveaways, too, so if you're a little out of shape or lacking motivation, we can't think of any better way to jump-start your summer fitness plan.

The BlueMile Brew Mile series will continue throughout the summer. The first event is:

May 23, Thre3e Wise Men in Broad Ripple
**more dates to come, including Louisville events!!**

All events begin at 6:30, but plan to arrive by 6pm to register. You may register for $5 cash (only) at the door, or in advance online.

The BlueMile Brew Mile summer series is all about fun and fitness. So, if you're a committed runner or walker, this is a great way to get some of your not-so-committed friends out the door and on their way to an active lifestyle. Our goal is to promote running and walking as a fun way to stay healthy and fit. And, if it takes a beer to get your friends to join you, we're here to help!

Just ran the Monumental half marathon with my daughter this weekend. It was the best run of my life because we decided to run it together. At least that was the plan. When my body couldn't take the pace and I had to walk off and on during the race she slowed her stride to stay with me. She so understands teamwork and was very aware of my weaknesses and what I needed to hear to keep me in the run. We completed it in 2:12:40 together. She so loves her dad she knows what this meant to me. My hat is off to you folks at Bluemile for the opportunity to make this very special time in my life a reality. My daughter is one of your employees in Greenwood who lives and breaths running. Thank You for allowing her to do what she so loves 'Running', A forever loyal customer!

A simple GPS device with a great price.

The new Soleus GPS Watch is a great value for the recreational running enthusiast. I have used it on several runs of varying lengths and conditions and it was easy to use and accurate. It was simple to set up and use the first time, and it picked up the GPS signal quickly. I ran on a couple of different routes with considerable tree cover and it received the GPS signal consistently. It allowed me to configure the main screen to show time elapsed, distance, and current pace, which is exactly the data I am interested in while I am running. It allows a choice of five other configurations of data for main screen view, too, so the user can decide what is most important (calories burned is one of those options). It stores run data for up to 30 runs and is easy to review and compare afterward.

The size and shape of the watch are compact and close to that of an “everyday” watch, and I have been able to wear it for that purpose – time of day and date. The battery life is 8 hours of GPS use and it comes with a great USB clip that recharges the watch quickly when plugged into a computer. It has alarm functions, 100 lap split memory and a good backlight. Soleus must have done some effective user-research to determine the features most runners use most often and designed this watch around that.

They kept it straightforward and easy to use and offer it at a very reasonable price of $99. I would recommend it to any runner who wants monitor and learn more about their running but does not want to be heavily involved in programming and tracking. It would be an awesome gift and is not intimidating, even to a “non-techy” runner like me.

~~Reviewed by Melissa Rothrock, BlueMile Carmel
